A Rare Yew Wood Windsor Chair by William Wheatland Retford

A Good High Back Windsor Chair in Yew Wood with an Elm Seat, from the Workshop of William Wheatland this chair would have been made in his workshop in Retford Nottinghamshire before his move to the village of Rockley which was close to Retford, William was a Lay Preacher and Built a Chapel in Rockel around 1826 but shortly after gave up chair making perhaps to concentrate on his religion although he left Rockley and the workshop was carried on by George Nicholson and later Fred Walker. this Rare Chair is in Excellent condition apart from an old crack accross the seat which is perfectly sound , there is a name stamped to the edge of the seat probably of a previous owner.
