A Superb Victorian Burr Walnut "Jack in a Box" Davenport

VA Fantastic Victorian Davenport Desk in Burr Walnut by the cabinet making firm of Marsden and Banning of Manchester, it has a door to the right hand side that opens to reveal four drawers, the lid opens and the writing slide draws out then it can be lifted and supported by means of an adjustable arm that sits underneath there are two small drawers behind the writing slide and to the right are two pen compartments, to open the spring loaded" Jack in A Box" top there is a little lever in one of these small drawers which releases the mechanism that springs the top open , this then reveals the three small drawers and the stepped letter rack the top of this is hinged and on the underside of this lid is a presentation plaque in Silver "Presented to Mrs Birch  From the Ladies of St Saviours Manchest April 1868". This Desk is in stunning condition almost like new there is no wear as such to any parts as if it has never been used, it is veneered in the best tight burr of the Walnut tree and is inlaid with Box Wood to many parts of the desk, a Stunning example of Victorian Craftsmanship
